Most plants have a room. Fewer have a centre that would survive an inspection on a Tuesday morning — the prescribed equipment, a qualified medical officer, records that reconcile, and someone in it on every shift. Statura designs the centre the site is legally required to have, fits it out, staffs it, and then operates it.

What the Act asks of a factory
Factories Act, 1948
The obligation is not a single rule. It is a set of thresholds that turn on headcount and on whether the process is classed as hazardous, and the state rules under which the site is registered set the exact reading.

What a centre has to contain
The room itself
- Clinical space
- A consulting position with a private examination bay, separated from the treatment area, so an examination is not conducted in front of a queue.
- Treatment and resuscitation
- A hospital bed, patient monitor, oxygen and suction, an emergency drug tray checked against a list rather than against memory.
- Pharmacy
- Locked storage with refrigeration, a controlled-drug register, and stock held to the prescribed list with expiry and reorder tracked.
- Hygiene
- Hand-wash station, sterile supply and clinical waste segregation to the schedule the state rules set.
- Records
- A health record per worker, held by the medical team, retrievable for the period the statute requires.
What running one actually means
Statura’s part

- A factory medical officer in residence or on a visiting roster as the headcount and process demand, with nursing and paramedic staff resident on every shift. Recruited by Statura against the qualification the role carries.
- Cover
- Leave, resignation and unplanned absence covered from the Statura bench within seventy-two hours. Cover is a service standard, not a favour.
- Stock
- First-aid boxes and pharmacy inspected monthly and restocked within forty-eight hours of any inspection.
- Reporting
- One page a month to HR, EHS and plant leadership: what was due, what was done, what is open, and who owns each of them.
Questions
At what headcount does a factory need an ambulance room?
Section 45(4) of the Factories Act, 1948 requires an ambulance room of the prescribed size and equipment, in the charge of medical and nursing staff, where more than 500 workers are ordinarily employed. State factory rules and the classification of the process determine the exact requirement for a particular site, which is what the site assessment establishes.
Can Statura take over a health centre we already have?
Yes, and it is a common way to begin. The transfer starts with the same assessment: what the centre holds, what the statute requires of it, and where the two differ. Existing staff can be retained on a Statura contract where they meet the qualification the role carries, and equipment is inventoried against the prescribed list rather than replaced wholesale.
Who holds the workers’ medical records?
The medical team holds them, under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. The employer receives fitness status and workforce-level reporting rather than individual diagnoses.
What if the site has no room that can be converted?
Where no space can be converted, the same compliant centre is delivered as a mobile medical unit: a twenty-foot container built to the state ambulance-room schedule, set down on the site and staffed from the first shift.
